In memory of
Pierce Kent
Pierce Joseph Kent Lansing  Pierce went to his eternal reward Sunday after a lengthy illness. His pain is gone and his family are left to cherish the fruits of his earthly life: Memories evoking raucous laughter, a love for all things Irish, and a deep faith in God. He was born in Dublin on August 2, 1945 to Marguerite (Kehoe) and Gerald Daniel Kent. He was educated by the Christian Brothers and the Jesuits, played rugby for Gonzaga in Dublin, and graduated from University College Dublin. 42 years ago this week, he met Milwaukee-born Kathleen A. Conley and immigrated to the United States. Pierce was an underwriter for Employers' Mutual Insurance Co., retiring in 2007. Pierce was a founding member of the Irish-American club of Lansing, taught Irish language classes, and Irish history, was a 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Richard Council #788 and became a United States citizen in 2009. His last few years were marked by physical strife, but he embraced his cross and through it, drew nearer to Christ, spending many hours in prayer and adoration.  He was preceded in death by his parents, younger brother, Eddie Kent and father in law, Donald Conley.  Left to cherish his memory and preserve his legacy are Kate Kent, his wife of 41 years, daughters Siobhán Kent and Bridie (Bill) Bereza, both of Grand Rapids, grandchildren Oisín and Maeve who loved his stories, sisters Anne Kent and Geraldine (John) Kehoe of Naas, Co. Kildare, brother John (Bernadette) Kent of Brighton, England, mother-in-law Evelyn Conley of Sterling Heights, several brothers- and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews in England, Ireland, and America.   Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be, Friday, February 17, 2017, 11:00 AM at Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Fr. Steven Mattson as celebrant.  Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.  The family will receive relatives and friends, Thursday, February 16, 2017, from 6-8 PM at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Lansing Chapel where a rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM.  Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one's choice in memory of Pierce. The family would like to thank Red Cedar Oncology and Sparrow Hospital for all of their support and care of Pierce and family at a time it was greatly needed.  Condolences can be sent to the family at .  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. May he sit at God's right hand.
