Virgil Leo Hill Jr.
Virgil Leo Hill Jr., 57, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, surrounded by his family. Virgil was born on Sept. 23, 1959 in Rowan County to the late Virgil Leo Hill Sr. and Jettie Barringer Hill. He graduated from East Rowan High School in Salisbury. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country. Virgil worked as a carpenter for most of his life and was owner and operator of Virgil Hill Building and Repairs for over 15 years. His business was a big part of his life and he enjoyed working in his community. He was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Gold Hill and was a member of the Spencer Moose Lodge for a number of years. Virgil enjoyed the outdoors and loved to work in his yard and garden. He was known as a gentle and kind man who was always there to lend a hand. He was a great father, brother, uncle and friend and will be greatly missed by all. In addition to his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Charles Hill. He is survived by his son, Shawn Hill and wife Ameran of Faith; former spouse, Roberta Hill of Gold Hill; two brothers, Jimmy Hill and wife Jane and Ray Hill and wife Diane, all of Gold Hill; two nieces, Tammy Honeycutt and husband Tommy of Rockwell and Connie Talley and husband Shannon of Salisbury; two nephews, Matthew Hill and wife Samantha of Orlando, Fla. and Ryan Hill of Charlotte; great-nieces, Kendall Hill of Orlando, Fla. and Kayla and Faith Talley of Salisbury; and great-nephew Devan Talley of Salisbury. Service: A graveside service will be held on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 at 10 a.m. in the Historic Salisbury National Cemetery, 202 Government Rd., Salisbury. Rev. Darrel Norris, St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the Rowan County Veteran's Honor Guard, the Air Force Honor Guard and the Patriot Guard Riders. A memorial service at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Gold Hill will be held at a later date. Carolina Cremation is assisting the Hill family.
