Margaret I. Grubb 1921 - 2017 WAGGONER, IL - Margaret I. Grubb, 95, of Waggoner, passed away at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017. Margaret was born near Waggoner, Ill., on April 11, 1921, the daughter of the late William Oscar and Annie Sharp Marsh. She was a homemaker who along with her husband Robert worked side-by-side on their farm in Chatham and in Waggoner where they raised their five children. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and the Waggoner Christian Church where she was the organist. She was a self-taught musician, and could play the guitar, organ and the piano. Margaret was a ferocious reader enjoying Louis L'Amour novels, every local newspapers, Reader's Digest, and periodicals of every sort. Western novels, movies and heroes were her absolute favorites. Her life was like her cooking, she always added just a little sugar. She was active in the preservation of the Street Cemetery near Waggoner, helped form the Sharp Family Association, and for many years was an election Judge. She married George Herschel Bethard that ended in divorce. She then married Robert Mclean who preceded her in death in 1986. She later married Phineas Grubb on Feb. 2, 1999, and he preceded her in 1999. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann McLean of Springfield, and three sons: Don (Patsy) Bethard of Springfield, Paul (Katie) McLean of Chesterfield, Mo., and Jim McLean of Farmersville. She was the grandmother to 13, great-grandmother to 11, and great-great-grandmother to six. Her parents, son, Derald R. Bethard, brother, Fred Marsh, sister, Irene Chapman, and one grandchild, Christopher, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at Waggoner Christian Church in Waggoner with Pastor Paul Jones officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb 15 at Hough Memorial Home in Farmersville. Memorials may be left to the church. Hough Memorial Home in Farmersville is assisting the family.
