Ollen Francis Kay
Ollen Francis Kay February 17, 1921 - January 12, 2017 San Diego, California Ollen Francis Kay was born on February 17, 1921 to Francis Richard Kay and Olive Marie Kautz Kay, in Mooreland, Oklahoma. He passed away on January 12, 2017.After his father passed away when he was six months old, Ollen moved with his mother and brother Lewis to Revere, Missouri, where he grew up. After graduating at the top of his high school class, Ollen graduated from Chillicothie Business College in Chillocothie, Missouri. Ollen obtained a job at the Electromotive Division of General Motors in Chicago, Illinois. During World War II, Ollen was drafted and became a staff sergeant in the Medical Corps. While training in Little Rock, Arkansas, Ollen met Cora Whitesides Teeter at a U.S.O. dance. Ollen and Cora married after Ollen returned from the war in 1945. During the war, Ollen was stationed at a temporary hospital facility located in Cirencester, England. After the war, Ollen attended the University of Arkansas on the G.I. Bill. Graduating with an engineering degree, Ollen returned to work at the Electromotive Division of General Motors. Son David was born in 1952, and daughter Nancy was born in 1954.Ollen moved to San Diego, California to work for General Dynamics on the Atlas Missile Program. Ollen worked for Solar Turbines in San Diego as a project engineer and supervisor, designing gas turbine generators for power production. He retired in 1984. Ollen lived in the Del Cerro area of San Diego for over 40 years and attended Palisades Presbyterian Church and later the First United Methodist Church of San Diego. After moving to Casa de las Campanas in Rancho Bernardo, California, wife Cora passed away in 2011 after 65 years of marriage. Ollen was a thoroughly positive and optimistic person who loved life, and lived it to the fullest. Ollen is survived by his children David Allen Kay (Claudia), Nancy Kay Morgan (Larry), grandson Stephen Kay and grandson Kevin Morgan. A memorial service will be held on February 18, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church of San Diego, 2111 Camino del Rio South, San Diego, CA 92108.
