In memory of
DUNCAN Betty Marie Duncan (nee Carlson) died peacefully on February 5, 2017 at her home surrounded by family. Betty was the beloved wife of the late Robert Campbell Duncan and the loving mother of Andy Duncan (Constance), Bruce Duncan (Deborah), Laurie Duncan and Lynn Duncan; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, her brother, William Ray Carlson and her great-granddaughter, Heaven King-Bailey. Betty was born in Minneapolis, MN. She graduated as valedictorian from high school in Danville, IL in 1943 and received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University in 1946. She was the first female chemical engineer ever hired by Procter & Gamble. It was at P&G that she met her husband who was also a chemical engineer. His pioneering work on disposable diapers contributed to the development of the Pampers brand. Her passion was sailing, and she was very proud to have had the women's sailing championship at Cowan Lake Sailing Association named in her honor. She continued to race her Thistle competitively into her mid 70's. Betty also was a bird watcher, canoeist and an avid swimmer, often swimming a mile each day. She loved travel and her journeys took her across the globe to all seven continents. Within her family she was known for her wry sense of humor, unparalleled pie making skills and generous spirit. No visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra or to Purdue University, Attn: Chemical Engineering Dept.
