In memory of
Frank J. Zakar
Frank Zakar, 98, of Osseo was taken into the arms of the Lord on January 13, 2017. He was born in Stone, Kentucky on March 17, 1918 to John and Julia Zakar. He attended school in Kentucky along with the descendants of the Hatfields and McCoys. To help with the family income, he worked alongside his father in coal mines. After the Pearl Harbor attack he was drafted into the military in 1941 and served in the Army Air Corp. While serving in Pacific Theater, Frank began corresponding with Clara Toth of Detroit, MI. When the war was over, Frank and Clara met and turned their relationship into a loving marriage of 63 years. In 1950 they bought 82 acres near Ransom. Together they operated a dairy farm and grew corn, wheat, alfalfa and soybeans. They also enjoyed fruits from their orchard. To supplement their income, Frank also worked the afternoon shift as a tool maker. Although Frank and Clara had no children of their own, their farm was visited by many nieces, nephews and their friends who helped with the farming chores. Frank loved the land God entrusted to him and enjoyed planting and growing trees throughout their farm while Clara tended her flower beds. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Clara, brother, Julius, and sisters, Irene, Elizabeth and Helen. His life will be celebrated at the Hampton Funeral Home in Hillsdale at noon on Wednesday, January 18. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Ransom Township. The family will receive friends for visitation at 11 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Southern Care Hospice Services of Jackson, Michigan. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hampton Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Hampton Funeral Home – Hillsdale 517-437-0605
