TERENCE HUGH MONAGHAN Terence Hugh Monaghan, 85, of Little Silver, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2017 at home. He was born in Newark to the late John J. and Elizabeth Monaghan and raised in Jersey City. Terry attended St. Michael's High School where he became a record holding track star. He proudly served our country in the U.S Marines before and during the Korean War. "Semper Fi." In 1955, Terry married the love of his life and dance partner, Mary. Together they raised six sons and one daughter and became active parishioners of St. Aloysius RC Church. For 29 years, Terry owned Monaghan's Tavern, a neighborhood pub on West Side Avenue in Jersey City, where lifelong friends were made. Terry, a proud Teamster (Local 560) worked as a truck driver. He enjoyed spending summers at Conner's Beach Club in the Highlands. He and his wife loved cruising to Bermuda and vacationing in the Catskills. Most of all, Terry loved to spend time with his large, close-knit family. He will be deeply missed by Mary, his wife of 62 years; his brother, Jack; his in-laws Jeanne, Eileen and Herb; countless nieces and nephews; his children: Terence, Hugh and his wife Jill, Scott and his wife Nancy, John and his wife Patty, Patrick and his wife, Trish; Mary Suszka, Michael and his wife Nora, as well as his daughter in law Janet. "Pop" adored his grandchildren: Terry and his wife Sabina, Shannon, Heather, Brian, Megan, Matthew J., Kelly, Scott, Michael, Spencer, Ryan, Christopher, Bridget, Brendan, Keith, Thomas, Matthew P., Elise, Madelyn, Jimmy and Patrick. "Pop" will also be missed by his great grandchildren: Lucas, Terence, Samuel and another on the way! Terry is predeceased by his sister, Margaret Russell and her husband Thomas, his two brothers James and Thomas, his sister in law Peggy, and his son in law Tommy Suszka -- all of whom he loved very much. A Visitation will be held at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ 07701 on Monday, January 16, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Church of the Nativity in Fair Haven on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown.
