In memory of
HALLYANN ISKRA Hallyann was born in Eureka, CA on May 19, 1922, the daughter of Corona Ditty Schardin and Emery Schardin. She was named after her grandfather, Halliford (Hallie) Ditty. She died in Eureka on January 7, 2017, at age 94. Hallyann spent her earliest years in Sacramento, where her father was a city fireman. After returning to Eureka, she spent many happy hours playing with her cousin, Gene Ditty, at their grandfather's marine ways (ship repair) on Woodley Island. She graduated from Eureka High School and then took business classes at Humboldt State College. She was employed at Mercer-Fraser Construction Company for a number of years, where she made life long friends. In early 1945 she married Roy Iskra when he was home on leave from the U.S.Navy. After Roy opened Roy's Quality Meats in Arcata, she worked as his assistant until their divorce. At that time she went to work for Cal-Trans at the Eureka office and later returned to Mercer-Fraser's payroll office until her retirement. She stayed active in retirement with water exercise classes at the Arcata Community Pool and enjoyed crosswords and murder mysteries. Hallyann is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Olds of Arcata (husband DuWayne); granddaughter Julie Quinn of Portland, OR (husband Chris); Mike Ditty of Glendale (wife Dolores); sister-in-law Jean Iskra of Cathedral City; a niece, and several nephews. The family would like to thank Dr Irvine and his staff at EIM for their many years of compassionate care, the Lendes of Cutten Care Home for providing a warm family environment when Hallyann could no longer remain in her home, and Dr Han and the Granada staff for dedicated care the last few years. At Hallyann's request, there will be no services. Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.com
