Thomas 'Sonny' Corvino Orange native owned Louise's Market Thomas "Sonny" Corvino, passed away at home on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, with his loving family at his side. He was 84. A visitation will be held at Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell, N.J., on Sunday Jan. 15, from 2 to 6 p.m., with a service at the funeral home at 5:30 p.m. Interment will be private. For directions, or to send the family condolences online, please visit . Tom was born on Aug. 3, 1932, to the late Mary (nee Gold) and Thomas Corvino. He lived on Spruce St., Newark, N.J., in his youth with the Green and Gold families. Tom started in the produce business with his uncle Jake Green's horse and buggy and, before that, selling oranges to the neighborhood from his little red wagon. He graduated from South Side High School where he was remembered for writing his class night's song to the Melody of "La Vie En Rose." Tom served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 as a medic during the Korean War. He had a great personality and was a colorful storyteller. Tom was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Louise (nee Egidio), with whom he owned and operated "Louise's Market" on Washington St. in Orange, N.J., together with his son, Jimmy. Louise was a councilwoman in Orange for many years. Tom's late stepfather, Mickey Stanziale, and his late brother, Horace, originally started the produce business at the Washington St. location. Tom simply loved the produce and seasonal flowers business. He took care of the flowers as if they were babies. Tom was also predeceased by his sister, Irene Agriss. He is survived by his loving son, Jimmy; his beloved fiancee, Ellen Malisko, and his sister-in-law, Roella Manganelli and her children, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, and his devoted aide, Maurice Brogdon. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
