NIEHOFF MAXINE Peacefully and surrounded by her family, Maxine Niehoff, age 81, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017. Maxine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Niehoff. She is survived by her children, Judge Jill Rangos (John), Janet Laughlin (Brett), Jack Horner (Meg); and her stepchildren, Michael Niehoff, M.D. (Betsy), Fred Niehoff (Kris) and Nancy Mitchell. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, Virginia (Paul), John, Nick, Tyler, Elaina, Fergus, Griffin, Kate (Fred), Tessa, Stacey and Abbie. Maxine was a trained ballerina, whose love of dance defined her. Performance discipline translated naturally to professional discipline, and she eventually joined the family real estate business and later became a commercial appraiser for Chambers Development Co. An active member of the Republican Committee of Allegheny County, Maxine served for many years as Judge of Elections in Churchill Borough. In retirement, she enjoyed Pitt Football tailgates, cooking, sewing and, despite vision impairment, watercolor painting. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street ( ) on Sunday, January 15, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. and Monday, January 16, 2017, from 9-10 a.m., with a service immediately following in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests helping families whose kids love dance by donating to "Ken & Jean Dance Studio," 906 Lincoln Highway, North Versailles, PA 15137.
