Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Demyan
Demyan, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" NORTH GREENBUSH Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Demyan, 99, formerly of Waterford, died on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at the Van Rensselaer Manor. Born in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Mabel Daniels Weir. She was a 1934 graduate of Waterford High School. Betty had been employed at Cluett & Peabody in Troy, and retired in 1981. She was active in United Commercial Travelers and was a volunteer with the American Red Cross as well as with Samaritan Hospital where she was recognized for over 1000 hours of service. She was a member of the F.B. Peck Hose Co. Ladies Auxiliary. She was a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church in Waterford, and was active in their program to reach out to shut-in parishioners. On November 15, 1932, Betty had the honor of cutting the ribbon on the then newly constructed Cohoes-Waterford Bridge. She was the widow of Francis H. Demyan, who died in 1977. She is survived by her daughter, Janice E. Ciprioni (Mario) of Wynantskill; her grandchildren, Matthew Ciprioni (Kimberly) and Marc Ciprioni; and her great-grandchildren, Laci Cahill and Anthony Ciprioni. She was sister of the late Frederick Weir. Betty's family would like to thank all of her extended family who provided her with care and devotion in her later years. Also, special thanks to the entire staff at Van Rensselaer Manor, especially those on C-1, for their loving care. Funeral services will be on Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St., Waterford and 10 a.m. in Grace Church, Waterford. Interment will be in the Waterford Rural Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-6 p.m. Those who wish, may make memorial contributions to the Grace Church Memorial Fund or Van Rensselaer Manor Patient's Fund.
