In memory of
Casimir Nowakowski
December 19, 1920 – January 12, 2017 Casey lived 96 very full years. He enjoyed many activities throughout the years. He made the most of his abilities and talents. He was born on December 19, 1920, on Clark Road, in Harborcreek, Pa., to Joseph and Stella Siatkowski Nowakowski, immigrants from Poland. He was one of their eight children: Michael (Susan, Constance), Stanley (Virginia), Felix (Dorothy), John (Josephine), and Walter (Marie) Nowakowski, Mary (Bronislaw) Oleksiak and Bernice (Ollie) Spencer. He also had two stepsiblings, Chester and Francis Nowakowski, and was uncle to a multitude of nieces and nephews. He was the husband of Anne Kovac Nowakowski for 34 years, until she passed away in 1985. He was a loving, caring and supportive father and grandfather of Catherine Anne Slomski, husband Randall and their two children, Lance J. Dunn (Dawn) and Alec Slomski and Elizabeth A. Nowakowski and her two sons, Randy and Michael and great-grandchildren, Kayla and Rachel. He was also preceded in death by "the Apple of his Eye," granddaughter Brie Anne Dunn in 1975. He lost his best friend of 60 years, Stanley "Rocky" Rzodkiewicz in 2000. Casey grew up on a farm and attended a one-room schoolhouse where he excelled. He was a WWII veteran, having served in Africa and Italy under General George S. Patton until 1945. As a member of the Army Corps of Engineers, he operated and maintained large equipment. Following the war, he returned to Erie, where he worked at Erie Crate, and General Electric Company, where he met Anne. He worked at GE for 37 years, participating in the GE Apprentice Program and attaining the position of Lead Foreman before retiring in 1982. He was a lifelong member of Holy Family Church and was an avid golfer, bowler, hunter and fisherman. He belonged to over 100 organizations over the years and served as an officer in some of them. Casey was a generous person who gave all to all he could. He was a good friend to many and was befriended by many as well. Thank you to all who called him "your friend." It meant the world to him to have you as his friend. 96 years . . . "See how that's done!" Family and friends may call at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 5151 Buffalo Rd.
