Bonnie Keppen Bonnie Keppen, age 87, died Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at her home. Memorial mass will be 10:30 AM on Mon., January 16th at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Visitation will be 3-5 PM on Sunday at Weiland Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 5 PM. Visitation will continue from 9:30-10:15 AM on Monday at the funeral chapel followed by procession to the church for mass. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Bonnie Bess McAllister was born in Madison, SD April 22, 1929 to Cassius and Rubie (nee' Power) McAllister. She attended schools in Madison and graduated from General Beadle State Teachers College in 1949 with an Elementary Education Associate Degree. She taught 1st grade in Watertown, SD and then at Riverside Elementary School in Sioux City, IA. Bonnie married Blaine Keppen at St. Thomas in Madison on December 20, 1951. They farmed in Orland, Lake County until 1989. She was active in St. Thomas Choir, St. Thomas Altar Society, Bible study and local garden club and Red Hat Club. She was a tutor to many children throughout her life including winter months in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas where she and Blaine spent many winters in retirement. Bonnie loved being a Grandma and recently becoming a Great Grandma. She never tired of hearing about her grandchildren's travels and adventures and she was always encouraging them to explore the world and to strive for their dreams. She is survived by her husband, Blaine of Madison and sons, Michael (Alla) and Bruce (Nancy) both of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren, Dave (Tina), Sarah, Thom, Joe, Renae (Justin) Schmidt, Katie and Dan; one great granddaughter, Blair Schmidt and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Arletta Power, LaDean Tucker and Betty Myer.
