Ollie Mae McCartney
Ollie Mae McCartney, 85, of Aurora, IN, passed away at 9:05 PM, Thursday, January 12th, 2017 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, IN. Ollie was born in Petersburg, KY on August 11, 1931, a daughter of the late Thelma (Sutton) and Hubert Brady. She was a graduate of Hebron High School, Class of 1949. Ollie's first job out of high school was at Ullrich's Drugstore in Aurora working in the soda shop. She also worked in the office of Dr. Kenneth Jackson. Ollie worked over 40 years in the dry cleaning business, first for Sparkle Cleaners in Aurora, then for Econo Cleaners. Ollie was a faithful member of the Aurora First Presbyterian Church where she served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher and was a member of the Women's Circle Group. She was also a member of the Laughery Valley FOP Auxiliary, Job's Daughters, Dillsboro Home Ec Club and a former Cub Scout Den Leader. Ollie was a devoted Eastern Star member for 65 years and served one year as District Deputy. Ollie was the widow of former Aurora Police Chief William Dale "Bill" McCartney. Ollie and Bill were married on June 14th, 1953 in Petersburg, KY. They were together 60 years until Bill's passing on October 6th, 2013. Ollie is survived by a son, Tim McCartney(Karen), of Aurora, IN; by daughter-in-law, Teresa McCartney, of Bennington, IN; by grandchildren, Matt McCartney(Katie) of Aurora, IN, Amanda McCartney, of Greendale, IN, Danielle Griffin(Scott) of Vevay, IN and Jill Peters(Chris) of Fairview, IN; by 9 great grandchildren, Ryele, Lilly, Aiden, Ella, Kellan, Kenna, Ethan, Camden and Kaney; by 2 brothers, Joe Brady of Patriot, IN and Gene Brady of Quercus Grove, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Bill in 2013 and by her son Randy McCartney in 2010. Funeral services will be 11 AM, Wednesday, January 18th at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Rev. Robert Percival officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 PM at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Aurora Rescue Unit, Aurora 1st Presbyterian Church, St. Jude Children's Hospital or charity of donor's choice. Cards are available at funeral home.
