Van Brown, 81, of Big Spring passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at Continued Care Hospital in Midland. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at Myers and Smith Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at Myers and Smith Chapel with Ken McMeans, pastor of College Baptist Church, officiating. Interment with Air Force Honors will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. Van was born on March 29, 1935, in Hamilton, Miss., to Ercelle Ward Brown and Calvin Hill Brown. He married Glendia Jackson on Aug. 24, 1957, in Abilene, Texas. They came to Big Spring in 1966. Van entered the United States Air Force at 17 years of age and served eight years. Following his discharge, he was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Big Spring for 32 years. He owned Brown Fence Company for 20 years after his first retirement, and then he worked for the Boll Weevil Eradication for nine years before his final retirement. Van coached little league baseball at the American Little League Park from 1971 until the late 80s. He enjoyed camping. He was an excellent husband and father. He was a member of College Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Glendia Brown of Big Spring; two sons, Robert Brown and wife Dee of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Rodney Brown and wife Dayna of Ft. Worth; six grandchildren, Tyson, Kyla, Tallon, Colt, Jonah, and Logan; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Kermit Brown and wife Billie of South Carolina, and Gene Brown and wife Donna. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry, in 1964; and four brothers, Calvin Hill Brown, Herbert Brown, Jimmy Brown, and Roy Brown. Pallbearers will be Tyson Brown, Tallon Brown, Colt Brown, Matt Nordstorm, Jonah Robason, and Mark Dinsmore. Arrangements are by Myers and Smith Funeral Home.
