Edward "Ed" Sumner
Edward "Ed" Sumner Mr. Edward "Ed" Sumner, age 77, Springfield, Missouri, took his journey to heaven on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. He left this world with his family at his side, after a short battle with cancer. He was born July 2, 1939, to Charley and Pauline (West) Sumner. Ed lived his life near Halltown, Missouri, before moving to Springfield three years ago. He attended his first eight years of school at Roper school and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1957. He worked at Dayco Corporation from 1959 until 1999. Ed was a member of the Halltown Fire Department before moving to Springfield and was currently a member of the Hillside Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, sitting on the deck, drinking coffee, on warm days, and being a husband, daddy, and papa. Ed married Reba Howe in April 1960. They shared 36 amazing years together before her passing in May 1997. A daughter, Marsha Kay was born. In April 2001, he married Maudie Young and they shared over 15 wonderful years together before Ed's passing. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Ed's first wife, Reba, his parents, and a baby sister, Shirlene, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Maudie; his daughter Marsha Davidson, a granddaughter, Shelby Terry and husband Spencer, a grandson Kyle Davidson; and three great grandchildren, Bryson, Callen, and Abby. He also had a close attachment to his stepchildren, Barbara Scheideck and husband Wayne and James Young; and several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Other survivors include a sister-in-law, Delores Oleson, two nieces, two nephews, and several great nieces and great nephews. The funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, January 16. 2017, in Meadors Funeral Home, Republic, Missouri. The burial will follow in Rock Prairie Cemetery, Halltown. Visitation will be from 2-4 P.M., Sunday, January 15th, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to Season's Hospice, 1831 W.
