HOLLOWAY, Anne Irving Anne Irving James Holloway passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2017 after battling Alzheimer's for years. She was born in Birmingham Alabama July 1, 1934 to Harold Irving James and Annie Sue Herndon James. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, David, her sister, Martha Sue Brown, and her husband, Joseph Ogburn Holloway, Jr. Shortly after moving to Decatur, Georgia in 1965, Anne obtained her masters degree in education from Georgia State University and joined the noblest profession, teaching at several grade levels in various schools throughout DeKalb County, Georgia. She formed lasting relationships with her fellow teachers and with students who appreciated the extra distance Mrs. Holloway would go to help her students succeed. Among other things, she also raised four children, sang in the church choir, led a children's Sunday school class and played the auto-harp there, taught her children the meaning of giving back, and survived breast cancer. Anne is survived by her four children, Elizabeth Cordes (Roger), Susan Teller (Ron), Joseph O., III "Jeph" (Joy), and James, her sister, Cecilia McClenny, her sister-in-law, Cynnie James, grandsons Roger and Evan Cordes, Joseph and James Holloway, and Alexander Holloway, great-grandchildren, Beatrice and Roger Cordes, nieces Leslie and Mally James, Suzy Gatewood, Wendy Kennedy, Celia Morrison, nephews Sandy, Michael, and Cooper James, David Welch, Hal and Morris Wright, and her Aunt Martha Scott of Fairhope, AL and many beloved cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa on Saturday January 14,2017 at 1:30 pm. Visitation with the family will be held at the church beginning at 12:45 pm. In lieu of flowers, family asks for donations to be made to Alzheimer's Association at .
