SMETHPORT - Earl E. "Bud" Kohler, 91, of Smethport, died Thursday (Jan. 12, 2017) in the Sena Kean Manor, Smethport. He was born Sept. 5, 1925, in Buffalo, N.Y., a son of Edward and Rosa Kohler. On June 6, 1948, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Smethport, he married Virginia Vickers, who died in 1997. Mr. Kohler was a graduate of Buffalo schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat during his service. Mr. Kohler worked for Western Electric for many years as an installer before his retirement. He is survived by one daughter: Melanie (Mike) Durkee of Smethport; two sons, William "Bill" (Sharon) Kohler of Smethport and Dennis "Denny" (Lois) Kohler of Charleston, W.Va.; grandchildren Theresa, Janell, David, Michael, Kelly, Bradley, Jennifer and Joel; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Bud was preceded in death by one son, Roger Kohler on June 13, 2014, two brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, with the Rev. Joann Piatko, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Smethport, officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport.
