James W. "Chip" Burnham III
James Burnham, III Nov. 23, 1955 - Jan. 9, 2017 Macon, GA- James W. "Chip" Burnham, III, 61, of Roswell, passed away peacefully Monday, January 9, 2017. He was born in Macon, Georgia November 23, 1955 to James W. Burnham, Jr. and the late Anne Burnham. Chip attended Stratford Academy in Macon and then the University of Georgia where he graduated from the Terry College of Business in Accounting. He was a brother in the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity in Athens. He then moved to Atlanta to work for Price Waterhouse and met Joy Meeks of Marietta whom he married in August of 1981 and had two children, Jonathan and Lauren. Chip moved to Houston, Texas in 1980 where he was Manager of Finance for Milchem, Inc. and later Controller for a division of Baker International. In 1985 he became Vice President of Finance of Ned Lloyd/ Maersk based in Singapore. In 1988 Chip returned to Atlanta where he was first Controller for the World Championship Wrestling division of Turner Broadcasting and then a Promoter. Most recently, he has been a Financial Advisor to many clients in the Roswell office of Raymond James. Chip loved his work helping people achieve their goals in life. He served as an Ambassador of the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce and was twice recognized as the Ambassador of the year. His favorite sport was football and he played on a semi-pro team while living in Houston. He loved to play in golf fundraisers with his Dad and two brothers, Matt and Robert. He enjoyed playing in the Burnham Fantasy Football league which he won as champion this season. He also loved playing with his grandson, Tyler, who was born to Jon and his wife Rikki in October 2014. Chip had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and share laughter with his family. Chip is survived by his children Jonathan Burnham and Lauren Burnham of Roswell and grandson Tyler Burnham. He was the eldest of five children and is survived by his father, James, Jr., siblings Matt Burnham of Marietta, Robert Burnham of Macon, Carol Elmore of Martinsville, Virginia, and Joy Williams of Marietta. A memorial service will be held at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors on Saturday, January 14, 2017. The family will begin receiving friends at 1:00pm and the memorial service will begin at 2:00pm in the chapel.
