Colonel William Vance Favor, Jr (Bill) USAF Retired, was born August 26, 1921 in Knox City, Texas to William Vance Favor and Robye Condron Favor. He died December 22, 2016 in El Paso, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. In addition to his parents, Bill is predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Skip Bodine Favor, to whom he was married for over 61 years. He was also predeceased by his son-in-law, Alfred W. Howell. Bill is survived by his daughters Bodine Porter (Bruce), Andrea Frankland (Ed), Jennifer Howell, and Sally Mooney (Bill). He is also survived by his beloved grandsons Andrew W. Howell and C. David Howell, and sisters Ann Harris and Jo Baldon (Earl), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill had a distinguished military career, serving as a navigator/ bombardier, then as a pilot with the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He earned numerous awards including the Purple Heart, and Distinguished Flying Cross. Once, he was shot down and wounded while flying in the Pacific but he and his entire crew were picked up by an Aussie in a sea plane. After the war he continued his career in the Air Force for another 21 years. Bill and Skip loved to travel and were stationed around the world on the islands of Guam and Okinawa, and in Madrid, Spain. Bill drove his wife and daughters all throughout the United States and Europe, in their trusty Ford sedans. After retiring from the Air Force in 1966, he began a second career with American Airlines, in San Antonio and El Paso. After retiring a second time, Bill and Skip enjoyed traveling throughout the world. They took numerous cruises, including several around the world cruises. Bill was a past member of the Optimist Club of San Antonio, the Order of Daedalians, a fraternal order for military pilots, and the El Paso Downtown Lions Club. He was also a volunteer for the El Paso Police Department's air support unit, and was an elder and longtime board member of Bethany Christian Church. He was a Master Gardener and an avid golfer, and was a member of the Vista Hills Country Club Dawn Patrol for many years. We want to give a special thanks to Bill's caregiver and angel, Betty Ronquillo Hernandez, who gave him the best care possible in his last few years. Services will be held at Bethany Christian Church, 10453 Springwood at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 14, 2017. Bill will join his beloved wife, Skip, for internment at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill's name may be made to Bethany Christian Church Education Fund, or a charity of your choice.
