Hilliard Holbrook II
Hilliard Baxter Holbrook II Commander (US Navy, Retired) Hilliard Holbrook II passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. He was born in Waltham, Mass in 1927 and lived in Massachusetts and New Hampshire until 1945 when he joined the Navy. After two years enlisted service, he was accepted into the NROTC program and was commissioned in 1951 after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania. While in the Navy, he served on the USS Sabine, USS Glynn, USS Caperton, USS Fechteler, USS Des Moines, USS Rankin, and USS Telfair. He also had several shore commands in Norfolk and northern Virginia. In 1971, upon his retirement from the Navy, his family moved to Pensacola Florida. There, he served as the Director of Escambia County Day Care Services from 1973 to 1977. He attended the University of West Florida, and wrote about local government for the Gulf Breeze Sentinel from 1980 to 1993. From 2000 to 2010, he was an active volunteer with the Sacred Heart Hospital, the USO, the Naval Aviation Museum, and Catholic Charities. His wife Elizabeth, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and daughter Amy preceded him in death. He is survived by his son Hilliard, daughter-in-law Jane, granddaughter Jessica, three great-grandsons and his sister Madge and brother-in-law Bryce Fairbanks of Salt Lake City, Utah.
