Myrle Clarence Walters
Myrle Clarence Walters, 92, passed away on January 11, 2017, at Personal Place, Pioneer Hospital in Aberdeen, MS. He was the only child of Clarence Webster Walters and Norma Lovis Bruce Walters. Myrle was a fifth generation resident of Monroe County whose ancestors settled there in 1833. Myrle was a graduate of Aberdeen High School where he played in the band and was a member of the football team. He was also a graduate of Mississippi State University. He was a faithful and loyal fan of the MSU football and baseball teams. He was adamant in his love for his Dawgs. Myrle was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict. As a first machine gunner of the Army's 14th Armored Division, he had a part in the liberation of France and the invasion of Germany. He was promoted to the rank of 2nd Lt. at the end of his service. Myrle served the Army stateside during the Korean Conflict. He was called back to active duty, serving at the Army's Atlanta Depot and Fort Hood, TX. Myrle spent 42 years as a furniture sales representative for Kent-Coffey and Fairfield Chair in Blowing Rock and Lenoir, NC. He was responsible for sales in Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, the Florida panhandle, and southern Arkansas. His fellow sales representatives affectionately gave him the nickname "Slick" referring to his unique methods of convincing his customers to purchase his furniture. He was dedicated to his company and his job and was untiring in his efforts. Fairfield Chair Company honored him as salesman of the year and recognized his service to the company upon his retirement. He is survived by his devoted wife, Vera Trantham of 69 years and children, Melinda Clark (John), Lebanon, TN; Judy Puckett Shuler, Aberdeen, MS; and Kevin Walters (Suzie), Starkville, MS. Myrle is also survived by six grandchildren, Amanda Clark Marble (Rob), Elizabeth Puckett Haworth (Peter), A.B. Puckett IV, Laurette Clark Wolfe (Travis), Web Walters, and Clayton Walters (Emily); six great grandchildren and a host of friends and former colleagues. He was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and would share their accomplishments with anyone who would listen. His funeral service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Aberdeen where he was a lifelong member. The Reverends Dave Dowdy and David Harrell will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Aberdeen. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the church. . Pallbearers will be A. B. Puckett IV, Web Walters, Clayton Walters, Travis Wolfe, Dale Pierce, and Franklin Evans. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Box, Conwell Harris, Pete McElroy, Don Land, Darnell Dobson, Jerry Nason, and Sam Jaynes, Jr. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
