November 8, 1936- January 9, 2017 Carole Ann Reynolds was born on November 8, 1936, in Paullina, Iowa, to Lars Larson Jr., and Gertrude Japenga Larson. She passed away on January 9, 2017, peacefully. Carole spent her early years living on a farm and attending a one room school house located close to her grandfather's farm. Carole was anxious to begin her education and frequently walked the ¼ mile to the school building where she would sit outside an open window and listen to what was going on in the classroom. Finally, when she was four, the school board agreed that she could officially attend classes that fall. This love of learning continued into her high school years in Ojai, California, where she belonged to the California Scholarship Federation and earned her life membership in that organization. She graduated from Nordhoff High School in Ojai in 1954. Following graduation, she married John Pool and had two daughters, Jon Rene (Tracy) Stephen of Anacortes and Jeri Ann (Dennis) Houston: Jeri pre-deceased in 2009. After moving to Solvang, CA, Carole began her college career and graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1970, and was admitted to the master's program in the history department and the graduate school of education. After earning her lifetime teaching credential she taught in many of the schools in the Santa Ynez Valley and also she was the advisor for the Youth and Government program for nine years. She received the alumni award for outstanding advisor in 1984 in Sacramento and also the Dr. Paul Veazey Significant Service Award from the Santa Barbara YMCA for her work with young people the same year. In 1993, Carole married Levern (Verne) Reynolds, and they made Mount Vernon their home until her death. In 2006, Carole became a member of the Neighbors in Need Food Bank board and held all the offices, including president of the board in 2010. In 2004, Carole fulfilled a desire to begin quilting and as a result created many beautiful quilts for friends, relatives, and for her own use. One of Carole's biggest delights was to spend time with her grandchildren and later her great-grandchildren. Arrangements are under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, WA.
