John H. McCann Services for Mr. John H. McCann will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2017 in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville with Brother Tim Hisaw officiating, with masonic services being conducted by the Solomon Lodge #221 F & AM. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family requests that visitation be observed Friday at Hixson Brothers, Pineville from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will continue on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. Mr. McCann, 97, of Ball passed from this life, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Brookdale. He was a member of Tioga First Baptist Church for over 60 years. During his working career he owned a number of service stations in Alexandria, Lee Heights, Tioga, Ball and Kingsville. He served his community by serving on the Jury Duty committee from 1961 to 2016. Mr. McCann was a member of the Lions Club and the Solomon Masonic Lodge #221 F & AM. Mr. J. H. will be remembered for his compassion of others, including giving his own money and gas to help others. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Helen C. McCann; son, Harden Scott McCann; daughter, Charlotte Katherine McCann Cortello; parents, Harden McCann and Mary Nichols McCann; brothers, B. C. McCann, H. H. McCann, W. D. McCann, I. A. McCann; sisters, Callie Crosby, Hazel Jenkins, Altha Tarver, Lula Webster and Ottie Arrington. Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Gerell Layson McCann; daughters, Helen Janice McCann Nugent, Cheryl Kay McCann Labit; nine grandchildren, Scott Layson McCann and wife, Emily, Laura Smith and husband, David, Karen Renee Nugent, Julye Ann Nugent, Angela Cortello, Amanda Johnson, Austin Cortello, and Ameila Cortello and seven great grandchildren, Dylan Scott McCann, Joseph Ryan McCann, Ella Grace McCann, Henry David Smith, Anna Maxwell Smith, Charles Bishop Smith, and Isabella Young. Pallbearers will be Scott Layson McCann, Earl Conry McCann, Kevin Baillio, Gene Rodney David Smith and Darryl Baillio. Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Ryan McCann, Dylan Scott McCann, Charles Bishop Smith, Henry David Smith, Austin Cortello and Theo Labit.
