CLARENCE JOHN POSTHUMUS
July 12, 1921 - December 29, 2016 Clarence John Posthumus, Sr. (Click or C.J. to his friends) was born to James and Maggie Posthumus on July 12, 1921 in the small town of Three Forks, Montana. He had three brothers and five sisters. He left this life at 3:05 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at United General Hospital following complications from pneumonia. At his bedside was his daughter, Mary Kester, his "adopted" daughter, Jody Kallermen and his longtime friend, Marilyn Hargett. Click lived 95 amazing years. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army where be soon found himself in the Philippines following the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served four years as a heavy equipment operator. In 1946 Sargent Clarence J. Posthumus was honorably discharged. He returned to Skagit County where in the years that followed he drove Greyhound busses between Seattle and the Canadian border, flipped houses and property and eventually started his own heavy equipment business. He became a husband, step-father and father when he married Shirley Fish. Finally at the age of 82 he officially retired. Click enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, hunting, bon fires, BBQ's, hard work, hard play and especially fishing. There was always an abundance of oysters, crab, fish, laughter and good stories at family get togethers. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Maggie, his brother Harold Posthumus, and his sisters, Johanna Posthumus, Marie McElhaney and Rita Kohler. Click is survived by his brothers John and Richard Posthumus, his sisters, Margaret Rasmussen and Dorothy Buchnear; his step-children, his children, John and Jim Posthumus and Mary Kester, his grandchildren, Pat and Chris Posthumus, Rose Pingree, Michael Moir, Kris, Kurt, Anita and Karl Kester, Amanda, Howard, Chris and Sara Posthumus, as well as many great-grandchildren and even great-great-grandchildren. Click will be laid to rest with his best friend, Ted Bowlin at Fernhill Cemetery in Anacortes, where a military honor guard, his friends and family can say their goodbyes. The date and time of services will be shared with all when final arrangements have been made. Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home.
