In memory of
Bradley Dirk Nuzum
Dirk was born September 14, 1950, and grew up in Bakersfield, where he attended Northminster Presbyterian Church and graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1968. He enrolled at Bakersfield College and joined the US Navy Reserve and was then called up to serve in Vietnam as a Machinery Repairman aboard the USS Reclaimer. Most of his working life was spent at the family business, O.B. Nuzum Tire Service. Long after the closure of the business, Dirk was instrumental in getting the firm's original neon sign restored and installed in the neon courtyard of Kern County Museum. He loved being in the mountains when he could, working to polish rocks to reveal their beauty, making or adapting metal objects, and machinery of all types, especially motorcycles. His 1952 Harley Davidson Pan Head was his most prized possession. His friends remember many good times spent with him, how much fun he was to be with, and how he loved to laugh. He would go out of his way to help anyone who needed him and was loyal to a fault. A gentle and caring man, he was true to and treasured by his friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Karin and Tom Blakeley, and niece, Hannah Wiltshire, all of Dorset, England. A funeral service for Dirk will be held on Tuesday, January 17th, 10:00 am at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Everyone who knew Dirk knows how he felt about dressing up, so please dress casually and comfortably.
