In memory of
East Lyme - Frances Lanzo, 90, passed peacefully at her residence on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017. Born in Hartford as Francesca Carcia, on Jan. 30, 1926, to the late Antonio and Rosaria (Furiata) Carcia, she was a resident of East Hartford and Niantic. Frances was a graduate of Hartford Public High School and lived in Hartford during her youth and moved to East Hartford when she married the love of her life, Eugene T. Lanzo. After 67 years of devotion, Eugene predeceased her on Aug. 25, 2014. During her early married life, she held several occupations including telephone operator and banking clerk. She left the work force to start a family but returned once her children were all in school. Her last and longest occupation was as a paraprofessional for the East Hartford Public School System. In their early years, she and Eugene built a summer home in Niantic and resided there as summer residents for many years. Her former home in Giant Neck Heights still remains within the family. Upon her retirement, they brought a home in Port Orange, Fla. and spent many winters among the many dear friends they made there. Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Genie Coulombe and her husband, Wayne, of East Windsor, her son, James Lanzo and his wife, Linda, of Bolton, and her daughter, Joan Lanzo and her husband, John Viveiros, of Niantic. Also mourning her passing is a very special granddaughter and caretaker, Jennifer Stanton, along with her other four grandchildren, Wayne Coulombe, Victoria Lanzo, Vincent Lanzo and Stephanie Lanzo; and seven great-grandchildren. Frances also leaves behind her last surviving sibling and dear sister, Dolores Manion and her husband, William, of Newington. She was predeceased by her six siblings, Theresa Francis, Rose Fastiggi, Mildred Vicino, Natale Aho, Philip Carcia and Joseph Carcia. The family would also like to thank and is forever grateful to two very special caregivers, Melissa Phillips and Michelle Nicholson, whose love and caring support brought so much comfort during her last years. She flourished under their care. Frances was always cooking or baking and had to be sure that no one ever went hungry. The consummate baker in her provided elaborate birthday cakes and Italian cookies for every occasion, and her infamous homemade pizza and breads. Easter and Christmas were her favorite holidays and Christmas Eve with the Feast of the Seven Fishes at her house was legendary. Our beautiful mother, grandmother, sister and aunt is now enjoying a long deserved rest, as she worked so very hard for her husband and children in this life. She and Eugene are reunited and together again forever. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Christopher Church, 538 Brewer St., East Hartford. The family asks that everyone please go directly to the church on Saturday morning. Burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery-Veteran's Memorial Field, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford. Memorial contributions in Frances' name may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
