A. C. Art BOWYER
BOWYER, A. C. Art 95, passed away Friday, January 6, 2017 in Leesburg, FL. He was born in Mimico, Ontario, Canada and grew up in Dearborn and Detroit, MI. He served in the US Navy during WWll as a medic and dental tech. After the Navy his family moved to Tampa and bought the Trailer Inn Court. He was a past president of the Woodcrafters of America Tampa Chapter and did volunteer work for the Life Enrichment Center for many years. He was well known in the softball community and played in the Senior Games in Las Vegas and Detroit. He also participated in the Senior Olympics in Tampa and was voted best all around athlete at age 75. He loved baseball and his beloved Jays, Rays, and Tigers. He retired from GTE after 30 years. He was predeceased by his wife Wanda; sister, June Temple of Bear Lake, MI; and brother, Jim Bowyer of Tampa. He is survived by his daughters, Lexie Tomas of Leesburg, and Vicki (Fred) Dobie of Tampa; three grandchildren David (Aimee) Dobie of Tampa, Mike (Holly) Dobie of St. Petersburg, and Matthew Bowyer of Leesburg; great-grandchildren, Ally and Shane Dobie of Tampa; sisters, Pat Hibbard of Livonia, MI, Joyce Erickson of Locust Grove, GA, and Beth Springer of Temple Terrace; his many nieces and nephews; and his buddies from the Retired GTE Coffee Clatch Club who meant so much to him and whose company he enjoyed. A Memorial Service will be held on January 21, at 11:30 am, at the Hope Bible Church formally known as Hillsboro Christian Church, 5706 North Hesperides Street, Tampa, FL 33614. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
