In memory of
Joyce Ann Throgmorton
Joyce Ann Throgmorton Thousand Oaks, CA 1939-2016 Joyce came from Florida to the Conejo Valley in 1966 with her daughters, Jamie and Ronna and her former husband Jim. The Throgmortons were fully involved in the growing community. Barbershop singing with Jim, American Field Service and local school support for the girls were important parts of Joyce's life. They hiked and rode horses around Thousand Oaks before the Conejo filled up. Joyce cared deeply for Jim, loved her daughters, Jamie Throgmorton and Ronna Chezem, and adored her grandsons, Matt and Michael Chezem. She loved her partner of the last 30 years, Bill Hawfield, and truly embraced Bill's children, Katie and Ramsay and their 5 children. For over 20 years, she worked at Mary Hall Tree's convalescent home thrift shop as a devoted "Thursday Girl." She and Bill bought thousands of objects at yard sales in Thousand Oaks. Joyce cleaned and priced them and donated them to the thrift shop. The proceeds went to support the women at the Mary Hall facility. Her work experience included: real estate agent, librarian, administrator at the Conejo school district office and an officer of the Penguin Frozen Yogurt chain which grew to national prominence. For 20 years, Bill depended on Joyce to manage his consulting and speaking business. Her home is a quiet oasis with fountains, birds, flowers, animals and inviting benches. Indoors, Joyce surrounded herself with many beautiful collections and happy plants. Fairness, Independence, Consistency, Peacefulness and Compassion were fundamental life principles for Joyce. She always treated others fairly, was fully authentic and loved helping people. She was bright and positive and curious. All these life principles were fundamental to how Joyce lived. We were so fortunate to have had our time with Joyce. When Acute Myeloid Leukemia hit her, she fought it hard for 60 days, but it overcame her. She donated her body to science. A joyful celebration of her life will be held January 28th from 12pm to 3pm at the Anthem Church school at 390 Arcturus Street, Thousand Oaks. Please join us and bring a story of what she meant to you. If you would like to make a donation in her name, Joyce strongly supported Mary Health of the Sick in Newbury Park, www.maryhealth.com and Our Community House of Hope in Thousand Oaks, CA, www.ourhouseofhope.org .
