Etta (Mitchell) Spivey
Services for Etta Spivey, 96, Tyler will be held Friday, January 13, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Lloyd James Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Goodrich officiating. Burial will be in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery. Etta Spivey died peacefully in her sleep January 10, 2017. Etta is preceded in death by her mother and father, Martha and E.L. Mitchell, her brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Maye Mitchell, and her two sisters, "the twins", Gertrude and Gussie Mitchell. She is also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marshall Spivey. Etta is survived by her daughters, Sharon McClure and her husband Fred Hendricks and Marsha Jordan and her husband Herman Jordan. She leaves behind her grandchildren: Heather McClure Cofer and her husband Dane and their children Maddie, Vivian, Dane Jr., TJ and Kenny ,Grant McClure and his wife Stacy and their children, Shyanne, David and Marshall, Meredith Bland and her children Caroline, Campbell, and Charlie, Ashley Watkins and her husband Wade and their children, Brayden and Josie, Jenny Seitz and her husband, Bryan and by Julie Yurick and her husband Eddie and their children Reese and Bryce. Etta is also survived by the extended families of Aretha Campbell and Tamika Campbell. They have been loving and loyal companions and caretakers making Etta's final years a blessing. Etta was a long time member of First Christian Church of Tyler. She had many accomplishments in her ninety-six years of life. She formed the Young Professional Sunday School class and was very active with her church family. She was instrumental in the development of Adolescent Welfare of Tyler. She served as past president of The Lawyer's Wives Association, the Tyler Symphony League, and the Garden Club. She taught multiple subjects at Tyler Junior College for many years.
