In memory of
Velta McPheron Velta Marie (Jones) McPheron of Rolla, passed away of natural causes on Monday, January 9, 2017, surrounded by family at the St. James Living Center. In November 2016 she celebrated 100 years of life and love with a party attended by her many friends and family. A devout Christian, Velta was a regular in the pews of First Baptist Church in Rolla and a member of P.E.O. as well as the Gideon's women's group. Her faith was rivaled only by her love for family. After the passing of her mother at 15, Velta took to the family farm to raise her three brothers. The tenacity and tireless spirit she cultivated there would come to define all she did - no challenge was too great for a little elbow grease and prayer. Married to Basil Paul McPheron at 24 years old, they celebrated 64 years of marriage before his passing in 2005. Together they raised three girls in Aurora, Missouri. A working mother before it was in vogue, Velta still found time to make her childrens' clothes and meals from scratch and attend all their many activities. Close friends throughout, the three sisters would come together to harmonize gospel songs, bringing Basil and Velta great joy all of their lives. For her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Velta always had a kitchen full of favorite treats, a warm bed, and limitless time. When remembering the matriarch of the McPheron clan, family reflected on her warmth, homemade pies, and endearing belly laughs. In death she is preceded by her husband, parents, and brothers. She is survived by daughters, Linda Wityk (Robert), of Rolla; Wanda McPheron, of Rolla; Bonita Prock, of Rolla; grandchildren, Brian Wityk (Michelle), of Springfield; Cindy Reilmann (Sean), of Wentzville; Megan Prock McGrath (Meghan), of Boston; Jessica Barron (Dave), of Rolla; great-grandchildren, Elliott Wityk, of Cleveland; Grant and Lindsay Reilmann, of Wentzville; and Natalie Barron, of Rolla. A funeral service for Velta McPheron will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, 801 N. Cedar Street in Rolla. Interment will follow in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the funeral service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to First Baptist Church Rolla and Gideons International. Online condolences may be offered at www.nullandsonfuneralhome.com .
