In memory of
Thomas A. Maggio
Maggio, Thomas A. Gates: Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at age 97. Predeceased by his wife, Millie (Baldo) Maggio; brothers, Frank (Grace) Mayo, William (Frances) Mayo, Peter (Adelaide) Maggio; twin sisters-in-law, Frances Dee and Anna DiProspero. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Joseph DiProspero; nephews and nieces, Anthony (Jane) Dee of NV, Susan Clark, Diane (Rick) Cook, Renda (Matt) Kenny of FL, Tom (Susan) Mayo of UT; great nephews and great nieces, Shannon (Mark) Bellavia, Jaimee Cook, Christopher (Barbara) Cook, T.J. and Marina Mayo; three great-great nieces; many cousins. Tom graduated from Vocational Technical High School in 1937. He married the love of his life, Millie Baldo, in 1944. They were married 73 years. Tom was a WWII veteran. After the war, he was employed by Eastman Kodak Company as a machinist. Later, he went to work at his father-in-law's bar, The Jefferson Grill. Tom and his brother-in-law, Joseph DiProspero, eventually became the owners of the Jefferson Grill. They ran a very successful business until 1967. Later, he worked at the Mapledale Party House in Rochester, where he became the bar manager there for over 30 years, retiring at age 65. Tom's passions were golfing, working on old cars, cooking and watching the Yankees. He was a parishioner of St. Helen's parish for over 50 years. Happiest when hosting family and friends at their home with hundreds of holiday and family dinners, Tom and Millie also found great happiness helping to raise and care for their great nieces, Shannon and Jaimee. Uncle Tom will be remembered for his kind, generous soul whom everyone instantly loved. He injected his own special joy and laughter into the lives of all those he encountered. Tom would have wanted a note of gratitude to his caretakers, devoted brother-in-law, Joseph DiProspero, and nephew, Rick Cook, who were unfailingly there for him every step of the way. Also thanks to his devoted nieces Dinae Cook, Shannon (Cook) Bellavia, nephew Mark Bellavia and nieces, Jaimee Cook and Susan Clark. Special thanks to Tom's wonderful caretakers at Crimson Ridge Meadows Assisted Living, too numerous to name, and more recently at Grandeville Assisted Living. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8PM at the DiPonzio Funeral Home, Inc., 219 Spencerport Road, Gates. On Saturday morning, January 14, all are invited to attend his Funeral Mass at 10:00 in St. Helen's Church, 310 Hinchey Road. Entombment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Lifespan, 1900 S. Clinton Ave., Rochester, NY 14618 in his memory
