Lucy Pauline Abruzzo
Norwich - Lucy Pauline (Serra) Abruzzo, 96, of Norwich, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8 at Crescent Point in Niantic. Born in Norwich, on Dec. 13, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Victoria (Zigaro) Serra. Lucy graduated from the Norwich Free Academy in 1940. She worked at the Federal/International Paper Company until her retirement in 1982.She was a long time member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Preston, where she lived until she moved to Crescent Point in 2009. She belonged to the Preston City Grange #110. Lucy was very proud of her Italian heritage. She loved to eat and cook Italian food, as well as listen, dance and sing to music by Italian artists. Most of all, Lucy cherished her family. She was predeceased by her husband Charles S. Abruzzo; two brothers, Dr. Joseph Serra and John Serra; and her three sisters, Mary Tombari, Josephine Leone, and Margaret Barry. She is survived by Rosalie Barry of Niantic, Patricia Favolise of Gales Ferry, Joanne Reed of Springfield, Va., and Dr. Robert Serra of Westerly; as well as several other nieces and nephews living in Connecticut, Rhode Island and North Dakota. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12 at the chapel located in St. Joseph Cemetery in Norwich.
