In memory of
Ann Hughes Age: 78 • Essex Jct. Our mother, sister, memere, and friend passed away peacefully at home on the morning of January 7. Ann was born in Winooski to Tony and Lena (Lefebvre) Audette. The family soon moved to Essex Junction where she and her two younger brothers, Gary and Peter, would grow up and which she would call home for the rest of her life. Ann met her husband, Wade, while working as a secretary at General Electric. Avid skiers, they spent a great deal of time with friends enjoying life in Vermont, and eventually eloped to Stowe in 1963. A family followed with the births of Timothy, Matthew and Sara. Not shy or soft-spoken, Ann was known for her smile and giving spirit. She cherished her friends from bridge and book clubs. Ann was very proud to have opened and operated Junction Shoes with her dear friend, Claire Maguire. She later spent many years working at Racquets Edge, making friends with whomever she met. She was generous and charitable, giving freely of her time to many local organizations over the years. Her home was always open, her table always welcoming and her candy bowls always full. She was blessed to be a part of a uniquely close neighborhood that treated her as family and to live across the street from the Reardons, who would become an extended family for over forty years. Ann is predeceased by her husband Wade; her brother-in-law Robert Popp; her cousin and good friend Jackie Comeau; her dear friend and fellow Hillcrest matriarch, Peg Reardon; and her parents, aunts and uncles. She is survived by son Timothy; son Matthew, his wife Stephanie and their sons Evan, Colin and Peter; daughter Sara, her husband Ryan and their daughters Ruby and Gracie; her brother Gary, his wife Carol, their children Nicole and Bradley and their families; her brother Peter and his children Ian and Lauren; her nephew Sean; her sister-in-law Agnes and daughter Susan; her cousin Janet Kirby and family; and countless friends. Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday January 11, 2017 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Ready Funeral Home and Cremation Services Mountain View Chapel, 68 Pinecrest Drive, Essex Jct, VT. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday January 12, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4 Prospect St. Essex Jct, VT. Burial will take place in the spring. The family would like to thank Dr. Whitney Calkins and all of Ann's doctors for their extraordinary care and compassion. A very special thanks to the new neighborhood for all the love and care you showed our mother. In lieu of flowers, please perform a random act of kindness or donate to your favorite charity.
