JOHN MICHAEL "JACK" REMAR John Michael "Jack" Remar was born on January 2, 1935 in Chicago, IL to the late John C. Remar and Mary M. Remar. John passed away on January 4, 2017 after a lengthy battle with cancer. John is survived by his wife Kathryn; son Michael (Nancy) Remar; daughters Nancy (Kevin) Weyh and Jean Skupien; his sister Rosary Perkins; his late brother Albert (Joanne) Remar; his brother-in-law Richard (Maureen) Rosenbaum; his eight grandchildren: Stephanie (Konrad) Waliszewski, Andrew Remar, Joseph Skupien, Lauren Remar, Jamie Skupien, Sara Remar, Jennifer Remar, Amanda Weyh; and many nieces and nephews.John graduated from St. Ailbe Catholic School in Chicago in 1948, and later graduated from Chicago Vocational H.S. in 1952. He joined the US Navy Reserve in 1952 and was recalled to Active Duty in 1954. John attended the US Navy Electronics Technician School at Treasure Island, CA and was stationed at Adak, Alaska and Kami Seya, Japan. John returned to the Navy Reserve in 1957 and was commissioned as a Warrant Officer in 1965. He retired as a CW04 in 1995 with more than 42 years of service. John received a B.S. degree from Roosevelt University and a M.S. degree from Chicago State University. John worked for the Chicago Police Department, GATX Corporation, Armstrong Jewelers, Carpetland USA and ultimately retired as a professor of Information Systems from IVY TECH Community College. John was a lifetime member of the Southeast Sportsmen's Club in Chicago and AMVETS Post 43 in Burnham, IL. He joined the Illinois Police Reserve in 1960 and retired as Chief of the Illinois Auxiliary Police in 2006. John and his wife, Kathryn, were avid travelers, having visited 67 countries. Visitation Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services Friday, January 13, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. from the Elmwood Chapel 11200 S. Ewing Ave. Chicago to St. Columba Church. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's name to the USO or charity of your choice.
