SBONA, PHYLIS (OTTERBEIN) Phylis (Otterbein) Sbona, 87, of Rocky Hill, formerly of Middletown, wife of the late Joseph E. Sbona, died Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was born on November 21, 1929, in Middletown, the daughter of the late Walter and Edith (Priest) Otterbein. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a telephone operator for Southern New England Telephone Company for many years. She began her career at the Russell Company in Middletown. Phylis is survived by a daughter, Judi (Sbona) Squadrito and her husband Alan; a brother, John Otterbein of Manchester; a sister-in-law Lucille (Sbona) Garofalo of Middletown and several nieces and nephews. She leaves behind her two beloved cats (Nicholas & Michael) who will now join Judi & Alan along with their cats, Chubby & Buddy. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Middlesex Hospital Hospice and Palliative Care Program, c/o Office of Development, 28 Crescent Street, Middletown, CT 06457; Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405 or the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd, Newington, CT 06111. The family would like to thank the staff at Middlesex Hospice, Connecticut Hospice and Dr. Peter Pace for their attentive care. Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by The D’Angelo Funeral Home.
