In memory of
Donna May Yacobian
RN, BS, was born August 27, 1951 and passed away December 22, 2016 after a long illness. Born in Maine, she enjoyed her family's camps in the summer and skiing at Sugar Loaf for the long Maine winters. She was educated as an RN at Deaconess Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She earned a Bachelor Degree later in her career. She encouraged all her caregivers to further their education and left a sizeable bequest to the Santa Barbara Nursing Simulation and Skills Lab. Donna moved to Santa Barbara in 1974 and began her 42 year career with Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Starting as a new hire staff nurse, she advanced to increasing levels of nursing administrative responsibilities. Donna used her talent for finance and the huge heart of a nurse to enable the Nursing Department staff to deliver high quality and safe nursing care to the members of our community. Her last position was Decision Support Analyst for the entire Nursing Department and was a trusted and valued resource to the VP of Patient Care Services and all the Nursing Directors and Managers. Donna did this all with determination to deliver her best and with a sharp sense of humor we all loved. Donna had a soft spot for dogs and supported many organizations. She shared a love of classical music and opera with her best friends and was seen at every performance of CAMA and The Santa Barbara Symphony. She leaves a brother, Darryl Andrew Card of Portland, Maine. Traveling to California, he was a great comfort to her the last 8 weeks of her life. She will be fondly remembered by her brother and personal and professional friends. Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the professional and loving care provided to her at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. The caregivers at Buena Vista Care Center also treated her with respect and warmth through all her ups and downs the last months of her life. Through her pain and suffering, she still loved a good joke and laughed with us. A Celebration of Life will be held at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, her true home, on Friday, January 13th at 3:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your local animal shelter or the Santa Barbara Symphony would honor Donna's two great loves.
