In memory of
Ruby Isabel Bishop
YORK BEACH – Ruby Isabel Bishop passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 while in residence at Durgin Pines in Kittery. Ruby was a lifelong Episcopalian and associate member of the Sisters of the Holy Nativity. Ruby was married to Fr. James R. Bishop, Episcopal Priest, and member of the Society of the Holy Cross, until his death in 1996. Together Ruby and James had five children including Barbara Pardini of Novato, California; Kathleen Bishop of York, Maine, (recently deceased); James Randolph Bishop of Long Beach, Washington; John Bishop of York, Maine; and Julia Cossman of Anchorage, Alaska. Ruby has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren spread out from the Northeast to the Southwest of America. They will all miss her infectious smile and soaring soprano singing voice, which so often rose in praise of our Lord in both in church and at home. Ruby was an active participant in the priestly ministry of Fr. James including responsibilities within the Choir, Altar Guild, and Youth Group while also handling the many social activities of the two Episcopal Churches under their care in 29 Palms and Yucca Valley, California. Ruby was active in retirement at St. Georges Episcopal Church, York Harbor, and was a volunteer at York Hospital for many years. Ruby was born in Chicago in 1917, and as a young lady became a notable and in-demand fashion model for major retailers along the LOOP, including Marshall Fields. Later in life, Ruby earned the degree of Exemplar of Beta Sigma Phi, a sorority organization of women dedicated to self help and philanthropic endeavors of many kinds, inspired by the depression era needs of fellow women during the time of its founding. A Eucharistic funeral service will be celebrated at St. Georges Episcopal Church, 407 York St., York Harbor, at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, October 27. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Ruby's name to The Building Fund, St. Georges Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 364, York, ME 03909. Ruby's final resting place will be alongside her beloved husband in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin where they met as teenagers and fell in love. Visit www.lucaseatonfuneralhome.com .
