In memory of
Mabel Wrench
October 16, 2016 Mabel Wrench, 89, of Fairmount died at home. Strong, kind and generous, Mabel touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Born and raised in Parishville NY, she attended college in Canton, NY and settled in Fairmount where she and her husband, Wendell, raised their family. Mabel was a dietitian at the Onondaga County Sanatorium and then a school lunch manager for the Syracuse City School District, first at Nottingham High School, then at Fowler High School. Her true passion in life was giving back to others. Whenever family, friends, or the community had a need, Mabel answered the call. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Arthritis Foundation water exercise program, Literacy Volunteers, Girl Scouts, and more. She was active in her children's lives and all of their activities. Mabel's loves included the West Genesee Marching Band, Syracuse University basketball, the State Fair, and her cat, Cuse. Mabel's faith was an integral part of her life. She quietly lived her faith through her long-term membership in and commitment to her church community at Fairmount Community Church, United Church of Christ. She most recently served as a deacon, on the mission committee, and on an inclusivity task force. She was active in the Women's Association, and Sunday School. Mabel treasured being able to help coordinate the holiday program for the Westcott Day Hab Center. The Pennies for People program of the United Church of Christ New York Women's Association was an important project for Mabel too. Mabel believed in finding good in everyone and accepted people for who they were, regardless of labels that get used to define people. In addition to her faith and family, friends were very important to her. She was famous in the neighborhood for Sunday night popcorn and her chocolate no-bake cookies. She enjoyed staying in touch with and visiting extended family. Mabel was predeceased by her parents, Archibald Hendrik Bresee and Elsie Flint Bresee, and her husband Wendell G. Wrench. She leaves behind many friends and her family: Carolyn and Charles Whitfield, Brenda Wrench and Beth Bonebrake, and Jan and Doug Brucker; and, her beloved cat, Cuse, all of whom will miss her dearly. The family would like to thank dedicated caregivers Deborah, Anita and Samantha Wright, and her physician, Dr. Joseph Barry, who helped make it possible for Mom to stay at home. We would also like to thank the caring staff at Upstate University Hospital at Community General, especially the folks on the Transitional Care Unit, who assisted Mom in living her life to the fullest. Calling hours will be Friday, October 28th from 4 to 7 pm at B.L. Bush & Sons Funeral Home, 10 Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be Saturday October 29th at 12 noon at Fairmount Community Church, 4801 W Genesee St, Syracuse, NY 13219. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery will be at a later date as Mabel continued her lifelong generosity by donating her body to research. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to W.A.V.E.S, 202 Bennett Rd, Camillus, NY 13031, Fairmount Fire Department, 4611 W Genesee St, Syracuse, NY 13219, or Fairmount Community Church Memorial Fund.
