Ronald John Pagel
Ronald John Pagel, 74, of the Oyster Bay community of Crawfordville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 14, 2016 at Big Bend Hospice House of complications from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He is survived by his wife, Judy Bentley; son, Donald R. Pagel, Sr. (Sonja), Crawfordville, FL; two daughters, Holly Furrow (David), Topsham, ME and Karley Conoway, DeFuniak Springs, FL; step daughter, Joy McKinney, Severna Park, MD; five grandchildren, Jessica Pagel, Amanda Dougherty (Shaun), D.J. Pagel, Ellen Field (Stan), and Flynn Conoway; step grandson, Danny Weikert; four great grandchildren, Kyle Field, Desirae Field, Kayla Pagel, and Owen Dougherty; sister, Debbie Price (Tom), and cousin, Joann Phillips (Don). He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Evelyn Kingsley Pagel, and his brother Gene. Ron was born in Portage, WI and lived in Lake Delton, WI until he joined the U. S. Navy. As a young man, he enjoyed working with his dad who founded the Wisconsin Dells Ducks ride. Ron was self employed most of his adult life, and was the owner of Computer Technical Services for over 25 years. In the 1960's, he was a marine field agent of Florida's State Board of History and Archives, now the Bureau of Archaeological Research, diving on the Spanish shipwrecks off the southeast Florida coast now known as the Treasure Coast, making sure that the items being recovered by the salvagers were cataloged, described, and tagged with the position where recovered. Ron was especially proud that he helped recover precious artifacts that are now on display in museums. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, boating, treasure hunting, pickleball, and RVing. Since retirement, Ron and Judy traveled in their RV to 48 states including Alaska, and to most of the Canadian provinces including Nova Scotia. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Mission Valley Montana Elks Lodge, and the Heartland RV Owners Club. A Celebration of Ron's Life will be held Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Seafarers Chapel (formerly the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 13) at Shell Point Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
