June (Van Hoeven) DOUGHERTY
DOUGHERTY June (nee Van Hoeven), age 90, of North Haledon, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday afternoon, October 16, 2016. Born on May 27, 1926 in Paterson, June was a resident of North Haledon for many years before moving to Hadley, NY for 20 years and then back to the surrounding area. She was the daughter of the late Herbert Van Hoeven and Louise (nee Stark) Van Hoeven. A graduate of Paterson Central High School and Montclair State Teacher's College, June went on to teach Mathematics in the Wayne School System. June married Allen Dougherty on July 8, 1950. They were happily married for 61 years until his death in 2011. She had been a member of the Hawthorne Gospel Church where she served as a Pioneer Girl Leader and a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Hadley Luzerne Wesleyan Church and a volunteer at Adirondack Camp Cherith (Camp Cedarbrook). Survivors include her brother, George Van Hoeven of Neversink, NY; three children, Ruth Vanderbeck and her husband Thomas of Oakland, Lorraine Crowley and her husband James Rodriguez of Hadley, NY, and James Dougherty and his wife Ellen of Kinnelon; 11 grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. At June's request, there are no calling hours scheduled. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Hawthorne Gospel Church, 2000 NJ-208, Hawthorne. Interment will follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa. Memorial donations may be made to Camp Cedarbrook in the Adirondacks, PO Box 462, West Sand Lake, NY 12196. ( www.browningforshay.com )
