Robert Bob' Babboni October 20, 1941 - October 12, 2016 San Diego After a valiant five-year battle with cancer, Robert "Bob" Babboni died peacefully in his home with his devoted husband of 29 years, Frank Mitzel, and close family members at his side. Bob was the youngest son of immigrant parents Robert Dante Babboni and Mary Ercalani, formerly of the Republic of San Marino. Proud of his heritage, Bob maintained dual citizenship with San Marino throughout his life.Bob touched the lives of so many with his thoughtfulness and caring ways. To his family, he was known as the favorite Uncle, the greatest Brother/Brother-in-Law, the best Great Uncle, and the considerate Nephew. To friends, he was an attentive listener, an accomplished chef, and an avid car afficianado. Bob was generous to all, sharing the most entertaining stories, the funniest expressions, and the wisdom that benefitted so many. He will be remembered for his honor, courage and strength, particularily while battling his illness. Bob's laughter and spirit will be truly missed by those whose life he touched. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Bob was a 26-year resident of San Diego, although he and husband, Frank, enjoyed travelling the world, making and keeping many friends along the way. He was a graduate of De La Salle Collegiate High School and the University of Detroit. Bob served his country in the US Army Reserves for five years. He built a successful career in the Detroit area as a residential homebuilder where he and his brother, Walter, co-owned Fairlane Homes.Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Babboni. He is survived by his husband, Frank Mitzel; brother, Walter (Dolores) Babboni; and sisters-in-law, Barbara (Paul) Heininger, Terri (Mitch) Weatherly and Cindy Mitzel. He is also survived by nieces Sherryll (George) Stripp; Stephanie (Steve) Rumsey; Sue (Tom) Tyler; Sandy (Bob) McKee; and nephew Greg (Rose) Babboni, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.
