In memory of
Andrew Warren Macy II
Preston -Andrew Warren Macy II, of Preston, died unexpectedly, Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016. He was born in New Bedford, Mass. on Sept. 5, 1953, son of John Entwhistle Macy and Margaret (Burt) Macy. Andrew graduated from Ledyard High School in 1971. He played football for the Colonels and scored the first touchdown for Ledyard in Eastern Connecticut Conference history. He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1973. He earned a bachelor's degree in hotel management, and a master's degree in operations research from the University of New Haven. He obtained a Six Sigma Black Belt, was a certified PMP and ASQ. Professionally, Andrew was an entrepreneur. In 1984, he founded Structured Technology Corporation which was a defense sub-contractor for NUWC. In 1997, he started Advanced Inspection and Measurement Inc., which built automated inspection systems. Most recently, he joined Lawrence + Memorial Healthcare in their finance department where his intellectual curiosity led him to flourish in process innovation, data analytics, and project management. Andrew loved his family, including his wife, Maureen; his sons, John, Brian and Timothy; his grandchildren, Charlie and Alice; and his dogs, Duncan, Maggie, Hazel, Coco and Lila. He is also survived by his brother, Randall H. Macy; his sister, Jane Macy Pfeffer; and nieces, Alana and Eliza. Andrew helped to found the Groton Challenger Little League, to allow his disabled son John, and other disabled children in the area, the opportunity to play organized baseball. When Brian and Tim expressed an interest in boxing, he founded Macy's Gym. Nine world champions passed through the doors of the training facility, along with multiple regional and national champions. Andrew trained and promoted the first female boxer in Connecticut, Liz Mueller. He also served as the vice president of CT USA Boxing. We will miss his gigantic grin, infectious laughter, good humor, loyalty and friendship. He valued relationships and invested heavily in those around him. He will be missed beyond measure.
