In memory of
Norwich - Albert Gualtieri, 92, of Norwich, died suddenly at home on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016. He was the loving husband of Lucy (Pelligrini) Gualtieri for 66 years. He was the son of the late Pietro and Gina (Orlandini) Gualtieri, born in Bush, Ill., and later settling in a small town called Panama. He became known as "Panama" to his high school friends. Albert worked as the comptroller for Beit Bros. Super Markets for 46 years. He had also worked as a district manager for Lynne Poultry. He was a World War II Army Veteran serving in Europe and Japan. He was a member of the Norwich Lions Club, the Norwich VFW, the American Legion, the Elks Club, The Italian American Veterans Club, the United Italian Society and served on the Italian Heritage & Cultural Committee of Norwich. He was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy, class of 1941, and Bentley College, class of 1949. Albert enjoyed bowling, playing pinochle at the Rose City Senior Center, visiting Saratoga Springs Raceway and Mohegan Sun Casino as well as spending time with his family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Albert is survived by his son, Michael P. Gualtieri and his wife, Stacey, of Norwich; his daughters, Theresa Gualtieri of Norwich, Antoinette McNally and her husband, Dan, of West Hartford, and Mary Ellen Martin and her husband, Michael, of Uncasville; his sister, Rose Slaga of Norwich; his grandchildren, Erin Asselin and her husband, Brian, Megan Speich and her husband, Joe, Gabrielle Gualtieri, Vincent Gualtieri and Anthony Martin; and his great-grandchildren, Andrew Speich and Oliver Asselin. He was predeceased by his son, Albert. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Albert's family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, in the Cummings-Gagne Funeral Home, 83 Cliff St., Norwich. There will be a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 181 Elizabeth St., Norwich. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Norwich.
