In memory of
MARILYN J. BALSER
MARILYN J. BALSER, 87, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016, in her daughter's home after a gracious and dignified 14 year decline with Alzheim er's Disease. Her lasting affection for her family was evidence that what the mind forgets, the heart remembers. Born in Fort Wayne, Marilyn was the youngest daughter of the late Joseph and Emma Woehnker. She was a 1947 graduate of Central Catholic High School. Marilyn and her husband of 51 years, Donald E. Balser, were the owners of Balser Rentals, Inc. which did business in Fort Wayne for over 35 years. Marilyn provided a loving home for their nine children and a safe place for many others. She was a long-standing member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, a founding board member at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic School and supporter of Bishop Dwenger High School. She was a life long blood donor with the American Red Cross, including pheresis donations for newborn infants. Marilyn's love of the water began with her backyard pool where the Y.M.C.A. provided swimming lessons to hundreds of local children. She enjoyed a lake home in Coldwater, Mich. and later, a winter home in Bonita Springs, Fla. Marilyn is loved on earth by her surviving children, Brian (Gail) Balser of Tallahassee, Fla., Ken (Beth) Balser of Colorado Springs, Colo., Janet (Daniel) McMullen of Beaverton, Ore., Doug (Donna) Balser of Austin, Texas, Carole (William) Ivey of Raleigh, N.C., Tom Balser of Tallahassee, Fla., Gary (Rhonda) Balser of Wake Forest, N.C., Michael Balser of Raleigh, N.C., and Beth (John) Ludwig of Westfield, Ind.; 30 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and four siblings. Mass of Christian Resurrection is 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with calling one hour prior. A Celebration of Marilyn's Life for family and friends is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at Pine Valley Country Club, Fort Wayne. Burial will follow the service at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
