John W. Ackiss Jr.
John W. Ackiss, Jr. Norfolk - Major Johnson Washington Ackiss, Jr, 92, of the 3700 block of Orange St., passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016. He was born on April 12, 1924 to the late Johnson W. Ackiss, Sr. and Eloise Ackiss and graduated from Stamford University. Johnson "Jack" retired as a Major from the U.S. Air Force after over 28 years of service and loved golfing. He played on courses all over the world and was proud to say that he had a double eagle and eleven hole in ones. He is survived by his daughter, Terry Schuler and husband Mark; three sons, Johnson "Johnny" Ackiss, III and wife Kathy, David E. Ackiss and wife Debbie and Glen B. Ackiss and wife Cyndi; a sister, Shirley Sutton; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, October 24, 2016 in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel by Pastor Howard W. Wilson, Jr. Burial will follow in Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 4 PM. Following the burial there will be a reception held in the Sturtevant Event Center, 5100 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth 23701.
