BRIGHTON — Charles E. "Gene" Dirksmeyer, 72, departed this life on Monday October 17, 2016 at St. Anthony's Health Center. He was the son of Leslie and Morelin (Langley) Dirksmeyer, born January 23, 1944, in Hamburg, Illinois. Charles was employed at Owens Illinois Glass for 19 years, Andy's Auto and Camper Sales, K&K Campers, Lowes, Coleman Camper Sales, and Bill Thomas Camper. He was married to the former Melinda Lowe on May 23, 1965, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth "Beth" Dirksmeyer, Theresa "Terri" Dirksmeyer and Susan "Susie" Dirksmeyer, all of East Alton, Illinois; three grandchildren, Amanda Hyde, Jamie Frey and Zack Frey; great-grandchildren, Bryce Hyde and Hunter Hyde; a brother, Thomas Quinn of Jacksonville, Illinois; a sister, Roxie Smith of Cuba, Missouri; brothers-in-law Joseph (Josephine) Barry of California and Michael Lowe of Champaign, Illinois; Steve (Deborah) Lowe of Houston, Texas; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Leslie Ray Dirksmeyer and sisters, Hylia Dirksmeyer Schrieber, and Rosalie Quinn and an uncle Earl Langley. Visitation from 6 until 7 p.m. Memorial Service on Thursday Oct. 20, 2016, at Cathy M. Williams & Sons Funeral Home in Alton. Cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will be at Brighton Cemetery.
