Dorothy (Boody) Hurley
FLORENCE - Dorothy (Boody) Hurley died Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, at home in Florence. Dorothy was born April 26, 1922, in Amesbury, to her parents Evelyn (Stevens) Boody and Harold Boody. She was a graduate of Newton Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. Dorothy was a cadette nurse after World War II. She married the love of her life Brigadier General William P. Hurley in 1946. Dorothy worked several years at the Cooley Dickinson Hospital, many of which were in the childbirth center. After retirement, she continued on as a volunteer for 20 plus years. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Bill, as well as her beloved grandson Joseph John "JJ" Dushane who was taken from her at the young age of 18. Dorothy is survived by her adoring family, her daughters Donna and John Morrison, Karen and Donald Judge, Joann and Richard Picard, Barbara and John Nalewanski, Patricia Dushane and Michael Foster and her son William P. Hurley, Jr., and Rachel Graham, her 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. The pride of her life was her family. Dottie's passion for life was evident in her support first of all her grandchildren and their sporting events, as well as her favorite football teams the University of Massachusetts and the New England Patriots. She loved knitting, crocheting and working for her son assisting with the manufacturing of his fishing lures. She had a zest for life which is why she came to this age of 94 with dignity and respect for all those that had the luxury of knowing her. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, Dot's request was that donations be made to the Northampton High School Band, as she was an avid fan of their sports teams and she and her husband spent many weekend nights enjoying and listening to the band while attending these sporting events. Donations should be sent to the attention of Kim Broussard, Administrative Assistant and checks be made to NHS Band Gift and mailed to 380 Elm St., Northampton, MA 01060. Calling hours are Friday, Oct. 21, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Road, with an 11 a.m. funeral home service.
