Fred M. Walker, Jr. Jackson A loving father, grandfather and friend, Fred M. Walker, 93, of Jackson went to his heavenly home Monday, October 17, 2016. Visitation is 5pm-8pm Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016 and again 10am Thursday at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Funeral services are 11am Thursday, Oct 20, 2016 in the funeral home chapel with interment to follow in County Line Baptist Church Cemetery in Crystal Springs, MS. Mr. Walker was the son of the late, Fred Walker, Sr. and Margaret Luna Walker. He attended Waterproof High School and had a bachelor's degree in business from Millsap's College. He served our country in the United States Marines during WWII in the South Pacific. Mr. Walker was employed with the State Hwy Department and retired as executive secretary of Public Employees Retirement System of MS. During his tenure he was elected president of the MS Retired Public Employees Association "PERS" and was former chairman of the Board of Trustees. Mr. Walker's work proved beneficial for the Statewide Retirement Program and for bettering the monthly benefits and COLA (13th check). He spent over 46 years working to help develop and upgrade the State retirement programs and received many honors and awards during his career. He loved the Lord, his family and his church. He was a faithful member of Alta Woods United Methodist Church where he served in many different capacities, taught Sunday school and worked in the church thrift store. He enjoyed sports and had coached for over 18 yrs in Little League Baseball, he was a hunter and fisherman, but most of all he loved to play golf. He traveled the world where he enjoyed playing different courses in China, Japan, Tokyo, Scotland and across the United States. Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his parents; and two wives, Bettye Bush Walker, and Maxine Gregson Walker; also his 3 siblings. He leaves behind his children: Mitch (Maria) Walker, Pete (Margie) Walker and Joseph "JoJo" (Teresa) Walker all of Crystal Springs, grandchildren, Michelle Mekosch (Eric), J. D. Walker (Angel), Chris Walker, Jeff Hooker (Susanne); and 3 great grandchildren, Lexi, Kenzi and Cheyanne, extended family and a host of friends. On line guest book available at .
