In memory of
George Lory Bennetts
George Lory Bennetts August 12, 1927 - October 11, 2016 Visalia A man of God, husband, father, friend and mentor to many. Lory Bennetts passed from this life into the presence of his Lord and Savior Tuesday with his wife, family and caregivers by his side. He and his Lord are great friends and on many occasions lately Lory would say, "I'm just lying here waiting for Jesus to come get me." We rejoice with him in his reward but we'll miss him immensely. He touched many lives on life's journey who will also miss him. Lory was born in Monmouth, California, to George Bernard Bennetts and Ruth Rich Bennetts. The family lived in Mountain View for a few years before coming to Visalia when Lory was six. He attended Visalia schools until he entered the United States Navy at the age of seventeen. After serving his country he returned to Visalia and began farming with his father. Lory married Helen Charlene Wyatt and they had three children. His first wife passed away in 1969. He married Nancy Hutchins in June 1970. Lory loved farming and trying new challenges in the field. Over the years he grew cotton, green beans, hot house tomatoes, cucumbers, alfalfa, corn, to name a few. He also had a cat fish pond, raised turkeys, and had a beloved donkey named Snuffy. When he transitioned to walnuts as his primary crop, he worked with UC Davis in developing new varieties. Over the years Lory was very active in community affairs, serving on various boards. He was the youngest school board member to ever serve, elected at 20 he had to wait until his 21st birthday before he could serve. When Visalia became unified he served 20 years on the board. He was a hospital trustee on the board when their bond to build Kaweah Delta District Hospital passed. He also served on the Salvation Army Board. Lory was an elder, deacon and trustee for the Visalia First Presbyterian Church and was most recently active in the founding of Rivercross Church in Visalia. Lory had a passion for ministry. For 18 years he was on the national board for Bill Glass Evangelistic Association, that now includes a large prison ministry. He was also instrumental in a ministry to children called Salt Shaker and forming Tulare County Outreach. Lory and Nancy opened their home to countless young people involved in full time service to the Lord. Bennetts Ranch has hosted hundreds of functions for organizations that minister to the community and around the world. The ranch and barn also were used for weddings and in several Christian based movies. Lory is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nancy; his children, Rick Bennetts (Lois); Dan Bennetts (Sue); Bryan Bennetts (Karen); and Brian Bennetts (Michele). He is also survived by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter. Private graveside services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016. A public Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 10:30am at Bennetts Ranch in Visalia. Remembrances may be sent to Rivercross Church, P.O. Box 1326, Visalia, Ca 93279 or to Full Sail Ministries, P.O. Box 1772, Visalia, CA 93279 Arrangements by Smith Family Chapel, Exeter.
